Yosemite '04

While the great street photographers of the 1940/50s influenced me in my early years, the photographer that most inspired my landscape work is Ansel Adams, and it was a dream come true to travel to Yosemite in 2004 and follow in his footsteps. At the time, I was using the XPan Hasselblad camera, which used enlarged 35mm negatives, so all the images I took are long format. For Adams, Yosemite Valley was a “golden wonder in a vast edifice of stone and space”, and for this reason alone, it is the holy grail for many photographers. I feel lucky to call Ireland my home, but there is something incomparable to Yosemite – the sheer magnitude of this Californian park is like nothing I’ve ever experienced before in my lifetime.
