Camera Works I

Camera Works I

My early influences as a photographer include the quarterly, Camera Work, published in the early 20th century. It was the first publication to portray photography as an art form, focusing on the aesthetic of the images rather than the technical execution. The featured photographers were working with basic cameras, yet they produced stunning pieces of art through the simplicity of their subjects. I was inspired by how their images looked like paintings, and for me, the more one of my photographs resembles a painting, the happier I am. I tried to recreate the look and feel of the photographs featured in Camera Work in this collection; I took images that I had captured on film, and digitally remastered them to give them an antique-like quality.
