Louis Norman's Favourite Images

Louis is Giles and Catherine’s youngest son and he’s been part of the team here for the past year, working across all areas from the website to assisting Giles in his studio and helping with dispatches (and he’s also a primary carer of our wellness officer, Lyla the pup). Louis has grown up watching the transformation of Giles’s portfolio from just a few collections to its present-day volume of over a thousand photographs. When we asked Louis to pick his five favourite images, he teased Giles that he could only think of two he liked (he also keeps Giles’s ego in check!). Here are his favourites:

"Part of my job in the studio is to upload Giles’s new collections to the website, and his Thailand collection was one of the first that I worked on, so that’s probably why three out of the five images I’ve chosen here are from that collection. I like how this particular image captures the contrast between nature and a man-made creation, and yet both elements complement each other."

"Giles would be more known for his dramatic landscapes, but he also photographs abstracts like this brilliant image. I like the playfulness of the artwork that Giles is capturing in this shot."
-
A black and white image of a piece of artwork featuring an elephant sitting on another elephant balancing on its shoulders.

"The final one from the Thailand collection is this image of a cute monkey. I’ve always been impressed by Giles’s ability to capture animals (I wouldn't say that to his face – I like to keep him grounded) and this photograph became one of my favourites as soon as I saw it."

"New York is a special place for me, especially since visiting it together as a family. This image really captures how Manhattan is a city that never sleeps and I think it’s just a beautiful photograph."

"This image is a perfect metaphor for how I often see Giles and my older brother, Jack: two donkeys, yet they can be intelligent and charming when they want to be."
